Significant changes took place in the domestic district heating sector around the time of the political transition:
Previously, district heating services were largely managed by multi-functional economic organizations, primarily property management companies. Over time, these companies formed their professional organization, the Property Management Association. However, within this organization, which operated under a committee structure, the working relationships were rather loose.
Following the political transition, there was a need to strengthen collaboration to ensure more effective advocacy. As a result, property management and urban management organizations founded the Heat Service Association in 1990. In 1993, this organization was renamed the Hungarian Heat Service Association.
Almost simultaneously, in 1989, companies specializing exclusively in district heating services established the District Heating Providers Association.
Over time, the regional district heating companies ceased operations. To continue the work and activities of the former District Heating Providers Association, the Hungarian District Heating Association (MaTáSzSz) was established as a registered social organization.
A short film created for the 25th anniversary of MaTáSzSz’s foundation is available at the following link.
